Assisted Living Facilities
Assisted Living Communities
At Purple Bug Pest Control, we consider insect and pest invasions at retirement communities and assisted living facilities a very serious matter. We believe our elders and aging population deserve to live in healthy, pest-free, living environments and that their health and safety is paramount. Due to the nature of these properties, many residents are known to have allergies, chemical sensitivities, and other adverse reactions to traditional chemical pesticide spraying, insecticide odors, even from insects themselves like cockroaches, mice, ants, rats, silverfish, etc. Even bed bugs can become an emerging epidemic if the problem is not identified and resolved quickly. Many insects like ants and cockroaches carry disease organisms (pathogens) on their legs and bodies, and their presence in retirement and assisted living communities poses serious health problems to residents and their well-being.
We use an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach to eliminate and control pests while minimizing negative health effects on humans and unnecessary damage to the environment. Our pest control practices are perfect for retirement communities, assisted living facilities, and adult daycare centers. Our methods and practices to pest management and control include the accurate identification and monitoring of pests at the inspection site, eliminating the food source for insects, removing structural conditions that promote insect infestations, encouraging good sanitation practices, and providing pest education for everyone. In addition, we use trapping, monitoring, and baiting insect systems that not only eliminate unwanted pests but also prevent them from reappearing once eliminated. Our approach keeps pest-control expense to a minimum while minimizing harmful exposure risks to humans and the environment. We believe our approach to pest-control is very effective and we stand behind our services.
Assisted Living Bedbug Problems
In our experience, Bed Bug issues are among the most common problems with pest invasions in assisted living facilities. We believe that bedbug infestations happen frequently in these facilities for several reasons some of which include older furniture, resident travel, poor sanitation, etc. Bed Bugs are small, reddish brown, wingless blood-sucking pests, which are mostly active at night (nocturnal) and bite people when they are sleeping. Bedbug feeding on humans can cause extreme localized irritation and swelling of the skin; causing red itchy welts. These creatures usually hide during the daytime in places such as seams of bed mattresses, box springs, bed frames, headboards, dresser tables, behind wallpaper, clothes, inside and outside small cracks and crevices.
Bedbug Invasions and Infestations
- Older Furniture: In some instances, residents of assisted living facilities are granted permission to bring in their own furniture. Unfortunately, the upholstery of this older furniture is often infested with bedbugs which allows them entrance to the assisted living center.
- Resident Travel: Once assigned, residents of the center frequently leave and travel to and from the center ,and bud bugs, could be hitching a ride in their luggage or even their personal clothing. Likewise, when staff members, visitors, and medical personnel enter and leave the facility there are numerous opportunities for the introduction of bed bugs into the assisted living center; completely unnoticed.
- Poor Sanitation: Keeping the assisted living facility free from clutter is essential to a health living environment and unwanted bedbugs. In many cases, bed bugs will be present but go unnoticed by residents before real health related problems appear. Assisted living staff members should frequently inspect furniture, bed mattresses, clothing, other clutter in and around beds. And, remember, the longer you wait to start treatment, the worse the problem becomes to treat

In addition to Bed Bug treatment, we offer full pest control and management services for ants, cockroaches, mice, rats, silverfish, spiders, earwigs, pill bugs, among others. Our approach to dealing with these general pests is described below.
Our Pest Control Process
We offer an exclusive Pest Elimination Program (PEP), first stage, in which we will inspect in and around your entire assisted living or retirement facility including patient rooms, kitchens, social activity rooms, lounge areas, bathrooms and restrooms, and the like for insect activities and pest infestations. We will then proceed with the selection of the most effective pesticides and insecticides to eliminate the insects and pests we discover. We will treat the inside and outside perimeter of your of the entire facility where approximately 90% of all pest originate. During our initial inspection, we will point out potentially conducive conditions for pests and insects and make sanitation recommendations to stop infestations and evasions
Our next step, Pest Prevention Program (PPP) is the second stage to control and maintain your health care facility pest-free. After our first visit, we then recommend the Pest Prevention Program (PPP), which we will provide on a weekly, monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly service schedule. This program is designed to keep the entire facility in safe condition and provide a good, pest-free, healthy hospital environment for your patients, staff, and visitors. Under this service agreement, we will provide a second treatment 10 to 14 days after the initial treatment, 100% free, this will eliminate all insect eggs and stop the insect reproduction process, which we call this birth control
Our Termite Control Process
Purple Bug has an arsenal of weapons to manage, eliminate and control termite populations. Our most frequently used weapon is perhaps our bait technologies and application solutions, which protects wooden structures on the principle that foraging termites will feed on treated cellulose materials. This inexpensive but powerful approach eventually over time kills termites and in some instances the entire colonies
Highly-toxic ingredients in the bait we use kills termites slowly enough to allow foraging termites to return to colonies and spread the bait to other termites through food sharing; a process called horizontal transfer. Because dead termites repel other termites, the toxic bait chemicals we use kill slow enough so that dead termites do not accumulate the bait areas. At Purple Bug, we use three kinds of bait products including: (1) ingested toxicants or stomach poisons, (2) biotermiticides or microbes, and (3)insect growth regulators, all three of which are used for either termite colony elimination or termite colony suppression
Liquid Application with Bait and Monitoring Systems: With this service agreement, we use the Sentricon System developed by Dow Agro-Sciences. We use special termiticide chemicals in and around the perimeter of your home, building structure, or yard (soil barrier treatment) combined with the installation of multiple termite monitoring stations in areas where termites are thought to exist. If the monitoring systems (which contains a wooden stake) detects termite activities, our professional technicians will install specialized bait tubes with poisonous products for the particular termites found. Our technicians will then monitor each station for termites. Once termites are detected, bait stations will be continuously monitored until termite colonies are suppressed or eliminated. Important Note: Purple Bug will never use bait stations as a sole means of termite eliminate and control, primarily because this option can be very expensive for our customers and does not provide the ultimate protection we expect to provide. We kindly request that if our customers seek termite service estimates from our competitors, please read the fine print of the terms and conditions of their warranty and service agreement
Liquid Application with Repellent or Non-repellant: With this service agreement, our professional technicians will provide termite treatments inside and/or outside your home with powerful termiticide chemicals which are injected directly into an infested area. Repellants make the infested area unappealing to termites, which will direct them away from your home. Non-repellents are products that the termites will not avoid, and once exposed they will share and contaminate other termites within the colonies during their feeding and grooming activities. The spread of these chemicals are called the horizontal transfer effect, which in the long-run will control termite activities within the colonies. We also offer odorless wood treatments which have an immediate effective against further termite infestations
Physical Barriers: With this service agreement, our professional technicians will during the initial or post construction phase of your new home and install physical barriers designed to protect your home from termite infestations. Our approach with this agreement is based on an old adage, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” We believe that this is one of the most important things a new homeowner can do is prevent termite infestations before they occur. We use products called TERM particle barrier for this termite prevention option, which is chemical free and completely natural
Our professional technicians provide best-in-industry services and we offer our services at affordable and competitive rates
